At the end of January, I went on the Rock Legends Cruise IV as guest of the promoter the Native American Heritage Association and its director Pam Meyers. I strongly believe in this organization and in what they do, why they do it and how they do it. Look at the “Who We Support” page for more details.
The cruise ship that they chose, Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Sea, was really beautiful and the venues were perfect for the concerts. There were 27 different bands comprised of some of the best the music industry has to offer….Greg Allman, Peter Frampton, America, Randy Bachman, Artimus Pyle, Marshall Tucker, Steppenwolf, Dana Fuchs and so many more. I want to congratulate the booking agent, Michael Weinstein for doing such a great job in acquiring some unforgettable acts. During the 4 day cruise three of those days were spent at sea and one on the island of Grand Turks, The cruise made for a nice backdrop, but it was the music and the charity that was always in the forefront.
The first concert I went to was Randy Bachman and with the first few chords of his guitar I was immediately transported back to my youth as I started singing along to American Woman. For the next 90 minutes he played hit after hit from both The Guess Who and BTO. Like all of us in attendance Randy showed age, but his voice was still smooth and perfect. When I would close my eyes I was immediately transported back to my youth.
This emotional time travel happened with almost every “Legends” concert I was able to catch. There were also a few newer artists such as Dana Fuchs and Orianthi. I have had the pleasure of meeting Orianthi a few times in the past; once when she was a performer at a Los Angeles concert that my company sponsored. She is truly an amazing artist and it is easy to see why she was to become the lead guitarist for Michael Jackson and is also guitarist for Alice Cooper. Dana Fuchs was absolutely amazing! My first experience of Dana was when I saw her in the movie Across The Universe and her character Sexy Sadie. I was so impressed with her in the movie that as soon as it ended I looked up her contact information and requested an autograph. Seeing Dana live was even 100 times greater than on screen. She has a voice like Janice and the soul of Ella; she can sing rock, country, classics…anything. If you EVER get the chance to see her please don’t pass up the opportunity.
I hope one day you also get to experience this awesome fund raiser for this incredible organization.
